A watch is one important accessory that anyone can use in various activities. Extreme activities also need a watch. Diving, for instance, requires a dive watch. A dive watch must be able to withstand the intensity of the activity that a diver does. You need to choose the one that is most appropriate for you.

Diving watches have a nominal level of functionality that must be fulfilled to abide by the ISO standard. Many watchmakers deliver additional features as well. Traditional dive watches were analog, but the emergence of diving watch computers has seen a digital variety of dive watch find more prominence in the market.

Most people today do not realize that the first designer watches were actually wrist watches designed for women. An early example was the ladies' "bracelet watch" that was sold in the U.S. shortly after the American Civil War. Practical timepieces for men - such as dive watches and other watches for active individuals - did not come along for almost forty years afterward when the first wrist watch for men was designed for Franco-Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904.

An automatic dive watch is a watch that has been designed to be used for divers looking to dive safely to a deep level. The watch will have some common features, which include being water resistant to more than 10 ATM, which equates to a depth of 100m or approx 330ft. A good quality dive watch will be water resistant to a depth of approx 250m or approx 800ft. Today it is possible using the latest technology to produce an automatic dive watch that can be used on a much deeper dive.

A real true dive watch will conform to the ISO 6425 standards, which confirms the required standards have been reached in quality testing and the features for the watch are deemed suitable for diving and are safe to be used with underwater breathing apparatus in depths of 100m or more. Watches that meet the ISO 6425 standards are marked with the word "Divers" to allow easier identification of genuine diving watches from watches that appear similar in design but are not if fact suitable for use when diving.
