Back in time ancient people used to use a pocket watch to keep track of time. It was middle of 16th century AD when first wrist watch was introduced in Germany. And it was since early 20th century that it was considered to be a womanly thing. 'Wristlet' as the people called it that time was thought to be more of a decorative item rather than a functional one. Nowadays we see wrist watches being used by both men and women. Such things for ladies yet still represent the old notion of being a 'wristlet' than a watch with more emphasis on beauty and elegance rather than functionality.

Wrist watches have rather become a notation of our taste, our choice and our personality. This is the reason a wrist watch is still a necessity in spite of other devises that serve the purpose of timekeeping; mobile phone to be the biggest example of such devices. Watchmakers also understand the fact and that accounts for a large array of watches which makes it quite daunting to select one out of hundred and thousand of choices available. There are certain aspects that one should be clear about while buying a watch.
